Pantry Meter for Share the Secret

Here are some success stories from the past few weeks to help provide some inspiration to “Share the Secret About Hunger” and reach our goals.

SUCCESS STORIES
• Heather, SSM at V67 in Scottsbluff, NE, reports the promo is going great. She has been working hard to promote the event by setting up several boxes at a school a church. She is planning to place one in a bank, too.

The community has really jumped on the bandwagon…the school has run their own event to support ours — whichever class gets the most cans will receive a movie day (every kid’s dream! No classes, just movies :) ), so this has made all the kids excited. A local radio stations also is running an ad on six different radio stations because of her relationship with the mall marketing manager, which in turn also had the local paper get involved and write an article. Heather says she is hoping to provide a lot of meals for those kids! The staff has been giving, too. This not only helps hungry people and our sales, but it also gets our store name out there as a positive thing.

• Holly Eberlin, who manages store v76 in Spokane Valley, WA, was struggling to get her team on board with the Share the Secret event, so she decided it was time to get them motivated! She put them into teams of 3 and each team has a box in the back room that has the team member’s names on it. She set each team a goal to fill their box up 5 times. The girls immediately got competitive with each other and were ready to do what it took be the first to meet and exceed their goal! One of her Sales Leads, Tatiana Garcia, went around to local businesses and asked them to donate and on Sunday, September 19, a group of ladies from one of the businesses came in with 71 cans of food! They were so excited to get their discounts and with the 5 ladies combined, they spent over $700 in the store!! Also on Saturday, one of Holly’s sales associates came in with over 50 cans of food that she had collected just by going door to door in her neighborhood! These girls are determined! Holly also set up a competition with her team for selling the One Republic CD. She offered to buy lunch for the person who sold the most CD’s on Saturday! She came up with a really great way to promote the CD. She told customers that if they buy a pair of premium jeans, they could get the One Republic CD for free (with the 25% off coupon, they get $12.45 off their purchase which pays for the CD!) This seemed to work extremely well for them and by the end of the day on Saturday they had only 4 CD’s left in the store!

• Ginny from V35 Butte, MT, was interviewed KXLF-TV, and did a great job representing Vanity and the Share the Secret Campaign! Check out a video of her interview online: http://www.kxlf.com/news/butte-emergency-food-bank-projects-seek-to-help-those-in-need-/

• Marge Derkos, SSM from V102 purchased a OneRepublic CD to use as an incentive to drive contributions from the high school’s Key Club’s food drive (they’ve jumped on board with helping us out). She’s also been a HUGE PR ambassador for Vanity – Marge went to 4 local radio stations, who all played a small spot on what OneRepublic and Vanity are doing to help out those in need. Also, in Monday night’s paper in the lifestyle section, she got a 1/4 page about our campaign. Read the article HERE! The local cable company also put on the message board info on what we were doing to help fight hunger and about our food drive. TV 6 did a scan of our marketing campaign and the food barrel. The announcer did a commentary that played last Friday, which tied in w/Sheila from V101 (an hour away from them in the U.P.), because September is ‘hunger awareness month’. Marge says all of these places were very friendly & helpful in getting the word out at no charge! Thanks for your contribution and creativeness!!

• The Staff from V105 LaCrosse, WI, collected 15 boxes of food this past week! They made their own shirts and spent 7 hours last Saturday working at Festival Foods, a local grocery store, handing out flyers at the entrance and collecting food donations and handing out coupons at the exit. It looks like they had a lot of fun while helping out the community! GREAT JOB LADIES!

• Tammie Gerber, Allocation Manager from the Home Office, collected cash from fellow staff members and had a blast with her two teenage daughters who shopped ‘till they dropped for groceries brought back 3.5 boxes! Tammie also recommends everyone go through your cupboards and look for those items that when Mom comes to visit, she buys for you but you know you won’t ever eat it! “I know money gets tight, especially nowadays. But it really isn’t that hard to spare a couple bucks for a worthy cause like this. Maybe it’s just one less of the funky coffees in the morning or for me, cutting back on the chips for breakfast (it could be that or my ice cream for supperhmm),” Tammie says. “But bottom line, there really are a lot of families going through difficult times now and with the Holiday’s coming up, not having to worry about that certain meal or meals is a huge load off even for a short while.”

Keep up the good work and THANK YOU for helping us Share the Secret About Hunger!
